FABEC – Cooperation for a Single European Sky

The Functional Airspace Block Europe Central – FABEC – is a cooperation platform “to achieve optimal performance in the areas relating to safety, environmental sustainability, capacity, cost-efficiency, flight efficiency and military mission effectiveness, by the design of airspace and the organisation of air traffic management in the airspace concerned regardless of existing boundaries.” (Source: FABEC Treaty).

It covers the lower and upper airspaces of the six States Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Its airspace is one of the busiest and most complex in the world as most of the large European airports and major civil airways and military zones are located in this area.

FABEC provides critical infrastructure to enable safe and environmentally responsible flights and has become a catalyst for strong and sustainable operational cooperation across national borders guided by common performance targets compiled in one common FABEC Performance Plan.
